Lamaze is a technique that is designed to aid women who choose to deliver via natural pregnant and provides direction in breathing and relaxation. Lamaze is also another alternative. The Lamaze Technique is a natural child birth technique developed in the 1940s by French obstetrician Dr.

According to Lamaze International, the goal of Lamaze classes is to "increase women's confidence in their ability to give birth. The procedures are simple and effective. The typical Lamaze child birth class consists of at minimum 12 hours of instruction and includes no more than 12 couples. The Lamaze mission is to promote normal,

natural, very good and fulfilling childbearing experiences for women and their families through education, advocacy and reform.

Fernand Lamaze introduced a method of child birth in France by incorporating ways of doing things he observed in Russia. The Lamaze Philosophy of Birth, supported by an ever-growing body of research, provides direction for today’s Lamaze preparation for child birth. Toward that end, women learn various simple coping strategies, of which breathing is only one. The Lamaze philosophy of birth stipulates that "birth is normal, natural, and good" and that "women have a right to give birth free from routine medical interventions.
